Description

This crockpot butter chicken is rich, creamy, and full of warm spices. Slow-cooked until tender, the chicken simmers in a velvety tomato butter sauce for an easy, comforting meal perfect for busy nights.

  • 2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 can (14 oz) tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • Fresh cilantro, for garnish

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté onion until soft.
  2. Add garlic and ginger; cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Transfer mixture to the crockpot.
  4. Add chicken, tomato sauce, broth, tomato paste, and all spices.
  5. Stir well to coat the chicken evenly.
  6. Cover and cook on LOW for 6–7 hours or HIGH for 3–4 hours.
  7. Stir in butter and heavy cream during the last 20–30 minutes.
  8. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve over rice or with naan.

Notes

For extra richness, use chicken thighs instead of breasts. You can adjust the spice level by adding chili powder or cayenne. Leftovers taste even better the next day.
