  • 1 cup whole wheat flour or all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/4 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp coconut oil, melted
  • 2 tbsp cinnamon sugar or 1 tsp cinnamon + 1 tbsp maple syrup (optional)

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix applesauce, milk, vanilla extract, and melted coconut oil.
  4. Combine wet and dry ingredients to form a soft dough.
  5. Roll small portions of dough into bite-sized balls.
  6. Place dough balls in the air fryer basket, ensuring they do not touch. Spray lightly with cooking spray.
  7. Air fry for 8–10 minutes, turning halfway, until golden brown and crispy.
  8. While warm, roll the churro bites in cinnamon sugar or drizzle lightly with maple syrup and sprinkle cinnamon.
  9. Serve immediately for the best crunch.

Notes

For a richer flavor, add a pinch of nutmeg or cocoa powder to the dough. These can also be made ahead and reheated in the air fryer for a few minutes.
