- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1/4 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp coconut oil, melted
- 2 tbsp cinnamon sugar or 1 tsp cinnamon + 1 tbsp maple syrup (optional)

- Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, mix applesauce, milk, vanilla extract, and melted coconut oil.
- Combine wet and dry ingredients to form a soft dough.
- Roll small portions of dough into bite-sized balls.
- Place dough balls in the air fryer basket, ensuring they do not touch. Spray lightly with cooking spray.
- Air fry for 8–10 minutes, turning halfway, until golden brown and crispy.
- While warm, roll the churro bites in cinnamon sugar or drizzle lightly with maple syrup and sprinkle cinnamon.
- Serve immediately for the best crunch.
Notes
For a richer flavor, add a pinch of nutmeg or cocoa powder to the dough. These can also be made ahead and reheated in the air fryer for a few minutes.
