  • 23 lbs beef chuck roast
  • 1 packet onion soup mix
  • 1 packet brown gravy mix
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • Optional: 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Optional for serving: mashed potatoes and thick sliced bread

  1. Place beef chuck roast in the slow cooker.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together onion soup mix, brown gravy mix, beef broth, garlic powder, black pepper, and Worcestershire sauce if using.
  3. Pour gravy mixture over the beef.
  4. Cover and cook on LOW for 8 hours or HIGH for 4–5 hours until beef is very tender.
  5. Shred or slice beef and return it to the gravy.
  6. Serve beef and gravy over bread and mashed potatoes for a classic Beef Manhattan.

Notes

Chuck roast works best for tenderness, but bottom round can also be used. This dish tastes even better the next day and is perfect for feeding a crowd.
