Slow Cooker Beef Manhattan is a comforting classic made easy. Fork-tender beef simmers slowly in rich brown gravy and is served over bread and mashed potatoes for the ultimate hearty meal.

  • 2 lbs beef chuck roast
  • 1 packet onion soup mix
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 packet brown gravy mix
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp water (optional, for thickening)

For Serving

  • Sliced white or wheat bread
  • Mashed potatoes

  1. Place beef chuck roast into the slow cooker.
  2. Sprinkle onion soup mix evenly over the beef.
  3. Pour beef broth around the roast and add Worcestershire sauce and black pepper.
  4. Cover and cook on LOW for 7–8 hours or on HIGH for 4–5 hours, until beef is very tender.
  5. Remove beef and shred or slice.
  6. Whisk brown gravy mix into the cooking liquid and cook on HIGH for 10–15 minutes until thickened. Optional: add cornstarch slurry for extra thickness.
  7. Return beef to the gravy and stir gently.
  8. Serve beef and gravy over bread with mashed potatoes.

Notes

For extra richness, add a tablespoon of butter to the gravy before serving. Leftovers reheat beautifully and taste even better the next day.
