Description

Slow Cooker Beef Manhattan is a classic comfort food made easy — tender shredded beef slow-cooked in rich gravy and served over bread and mashed potatoes. Cozy, hearty, and perfect for family dinners.

  • 3 lb chuck roast
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 packet (1 oz) onion soup mix
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 8 slices white or sandwich bread
  • Mashed potatoes, for serving
  • Optional: fresh parsley for garnish

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and sear the chuck roast on all sides until browned.
  2. Place the roast in the slow cooker.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together onion soup mix, beef broth, cream of mushroom soup, Worcestershire sauce, and black pepper.
  4. Pour gravy mixture over the roast.
  5. Cover and cook on LOW for 8–9 hours or HIGH for 4–5 hours until beef is fall-apart tender.
  6. Shred the beef directly in the crockpot and stir into the gravy.
  7. To serve, place bread on a plate, top with mashed potatoes, shredded beef, and plenty of gravy.

Notes

Beef Manhattan is traditionally served open-faced. Toast the bread lightly if you prefer extra texture. Leftover beef is excellent over egg noodles or rice.
