  • 1 1/2 lbs flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp ginger, grated
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup water (for cornstarch slurry)
  • 34 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

  1. Place sliced flank steak in the slow cooker.
  2. In a bowl, mix soy sauce, brown sugar, 1/4 cup water, garlic, ginger, and black pepper.
  3. Pour the sauce over the beef and toss to coat.
  4. Cover and cook on LOW for 4–5 hours or on HIGH for 2–3 hours until beef is tender.
  5. About 15 minutes before serving, mix cornstarch with 1/4 cup water to make a slurry. Stir into the slow cooker to thicken the sauce.
  6. Cook on HIGH for additional 10–15 minutes until sauce thickens.
  7. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds, then serve over rice or noodles.

Notes

For extra flavor, marinate the beef in soy sauce and garlic for 30 minutes before slow cooking. Adjust sweetness by adding more or less brown sugar to taste.
