- 1 lb (450g) ground beef or lamb
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup frozen peas and carrots
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 cup beef or chicken broth
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp dried thyme
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 3 cups mashed potatoes (prepared in advance or homemade)
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
- 2 tbsp butter (optional, for topping)

- Preheat oven to 375°F / 190°C.
- In a large skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Add onion and garlic, sauté until soft.
- Stir in tomato paste, broth, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, peas, and carrots. Simmer 5–7 minutes until slightly thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
- Transfer meat mixture to a greased baking dish.
- Spread mashed potatoes evenly over the top. Optionally sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese and dot with butter.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the top is golden and the filling is bubbling.
- Serve hot and enjoy.
Notes
You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version. Leftovers store well in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat nicely in the oven.
